Video: The Streets – “The Edge Of A Cliff”

This is easily one of my favorite tracks from The Streets’ latest album Everything Is Borrowed. The chorus is simple & powerful, and it painted a clear picture with only audio. The video is not what I expected, but I love the concept. Mike’s clean-shaven face slowly grows a beard throughout, creating a cool, subtle time lapse.

Truth is, Mike Skinner has never disappointed me. Even his blunders are brilliant.

Grey Granite x Action Jackson x J. Brookinz – The Bar

I love the Heavy Gunners because, as Grey says, they’re “artists in many more WAYS than one”.  The artwork is cool enough in itself, that the song could be “eh”.  But that’s not the case.  Grey brings his usual stylistics that set him apart from the rest, Brookinz spits (first time rapping on a track??) and takes a back seat to Action Jackson on a crazy, gyrating beat.

Kinetik x Rusty Redenbacher x SURFIN’ (Naptown Mix)

When I heard K and Russ were recording their own version of Swag Surfin’, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But after one listen at home, one in the car, and one at work, I’m officially riding this wave (pause).

Snatch Wars

Zach Galifianakis

I thought it necessary to give a tiny homage to Zach Galifianakis, as the trailer for “The Hangover” is all over TV, and has Old School/Office fans wetting their appetites nationwide. He’s definitely new to some, but to others, his hilarity comes as no surprise. Read up on the bearded funnyman on his Wikipedia page, and watch a couple classic videos below.

FSD x Timbuck2 x The Cool Kids – The Fake Shore Drive Mixtape

Andrew has been cooking this up for quite some time, and despite losing some exclusives through inevitable leaking on the Interwebs, this looks jam-packed with goodies. Featuring a healthy mix of Chicago artists, from Mikkey Halsted to Lupe to Twista.

I Like To Party!!! x Rusty Redenbacher “Wow”

I’ve never been to Volrath, but it must be alright if MHC has a new event there. Hosted by Rusty, who just sent me a new one, fresh off the stove for the summertime.

… peace to C Rayz, Ali & Sean

Best Reaction to Lebron’s Game Winner: Darnell Jackson?

The Shot Heard Round The World. You’ve all seen or heard about the Lebron game winner against the Magic in Game 2 last night. But you may not have heard of the Best Reaction Award. It goes to….

…a dude on the Cavs bench, who I’m 99% sure is Darnell Jackson (pictured above). Fast forward to the 1:58 mark. I’ll quote Mr. Berger who said,

“he gives it the fingers-in-the-cookie-jar then just strolls out on the court like it was all planned.”

Someone identify this man, ever so cool. Is it Jackson? I’ve got Jose3030 working on a gif (crossing fingers)….

I Love College (Parody): “I Love Bayside (Saved By The Bell)”

Hilarious song/video from Seanie Mic, Indianapolis’s own parody rapper.  Some classic clips in there. He’s a true Saved By The Bell head. And he’s gotten 39,000+ views in a week…

Lebron: “Wind Chill, A Little Bit Minus”

The Grip says:

LeBron is arguably the best bastetball player in the world, but remember, he did skip college. Trajectory sounds a lot like projectory.

7 Minute Freestyle ft. Rusty, C-Rayz Walz, Brother Ali, & Slug (The Vogue, Indy 5.19.09)

rusty_tweet

So, according to the Twittersphere, Dizzy, & others, last night’s show at the Vogue was great. There was also another notable hip hop show across town at the (former) Music Mill with Wale, Colin Monroe & Tanya Morgan (Brooklynati!). I went to… neither. Shameful, I know. But dealing with some major car repairs and broke pockets, killed my motivation. Luckily, I was able to see Wale in Bloomington (sans TM) last month. And even more luckily, there’s footage of what Rusty was talking about in the above tweet. Hip hop in the truest sense… enjoy.

*UPDATE: Another angle of the same freestyle.

Drake – “The Drought Is Over (Friends With Money)”

Finally found this new Drake tape I’d been hearing about. Fader posted it, then Kanye, now a bunch of other folks. At first glance, it looks like a mix of some old stuff (Successful, Best I Ever Had, Uptown, Cannonball, & others) with some new freestyles and full songs. Either way, it should be worth a listen.

If you have missed the Drake hype, your internet connection is probably down. See footage of the House of Blues Chicago debacle here, and a packed venue in Houston “mouthing your words and you ain’t even got a single out” © Phonte Coleman.

Wilco (The Album) Cover

Awesome cover art. I’m a little late on this, and somewhat of a new Wilco fan. If you haven’t given them a listen, do so. They’re a Chicago-based band, and have had six studio albums prior to this project. I saw them at Lollapalooza a few years ago, and have several “superfan” friends who introduced me to their music.

Plus, when they found out their album leaked, they immediately streamed the whole album on their site, wilcoworld.net. Pretty cool.

Video: 20/20 Hip-Hop Special From 1981

Really cool to watch this now, and see how much is the same… and what’s changed.  Thanks to Dizzy for sending it over. Instant classic!  Head over to Rap Radar for part 2!

The Cool Kids x Don Cannon – Gone Fishing

It’s here. There’s been a lot of hype surrounding this one, but I’m guessing it’s Lebron-esque. My download is 8 minutes away, but I wanted to get this up asap.  I have no doubts based on the people behind this project, that it is of utmost dopeness.

2 Cool Kids Songs Off ‘Gone Fishin’

Lovin the artwork… just as Chuck described. The full mixtape will be available for download here (and everywhere) on Monday, 5/4.

Video: Asher Roth ft. Cee Lo – “Be By Myself”

This video is crazy.   And Cee Lo on a hook is like Nate Dogg mid-90’s: instant hit.  Definitely one of my favorite tracks on his album.

Electro Rock @ The Melody Inn Tonight

This will be one heckuva show, with Grey Granite headlining a nice roster of folks. Word is Kinetik will be performing with s.a.i.n.t. RECON, too.
