You may have heard of alpha. from his work with Rhymefest, Class of ‘93, or his Obama ‘08 (Do The Knowledge) song recently featured in the Indy Star. But there’s a lot more to this MC/poet on his updated The FIXtape v2.0, which features original production from J. Brookinz and Scott Matelic, mixed with some beats from Madlib, 9th Wonder, and Black Milk. He talks about everything from women to politics to a-day-in-the-life-of-a-maintenance-man.
One of my favorite songs, “OnStar” is a tribute to his hometown roots, just “driving around in my city…”:
“Smooth maneuverin’ round traffic and pot-holes,
Headin towards Ripple to cop somethin’ from got SOLE?
Might stop off at Hot Box for a slice
Then we back up in the ride to buy stuff for the night”
