Check my man Trav’s page out for some linkage and more info on Blu’s newest project HERE

Just might be OK

There’s a new, FREE version of Adobe Photoshop available online, according to the WSJ and this Wired blog.

New Amerykah

Cool video concept from Ms. Badu.

Departure

“Time for me to leave home, ma, that’s that man… to Manhattan, N-Y-C, yessir that’s rap-land.”

If you’re hip to Rappers I Know, this will be old news. $40 bucks for Mos Def and Jay E – March 30.

Marcatron and myself jump on Skybus tomorrow night. My last trip to NYC in 2006 included the Roots at Radio City Music Hall with special guests Erykah, J*Davey, Mos Def, Dave Chappelle and Jay-Z. But even with those big shoes to fill, I have a feeling this show is going to be that fruit that Gwen sang about.

Going on

This post is dedicated to A. Pittkowski, who was disappointed in a two day hiatus of updates. Thank you for caring, and if you are the only one that continues to read, I’ll feel a sense of accomplishment. However, that being said… Shut the f&*# up, Pitt – you’re out of your element. The world doesn’t start and stop at your convenience.

So…. ‘Kowski told me to listen to the new Gnarls Barkley album, The Odd Couple, which I was doing while reading some new job materials. Great suggestion. (Who’s Gonna Save my Soul?, Going On, and Surprise are my fav’s right now. Mr. Lo and Mr. Mouse really have a way to sooth the soul)

As I looked up to think of a blog topic, I see the above viewpoint from my Starbucks patio chair. The orange and blue boxes in the background say “Truths” and “Lies”, which is part of a public art project in Indianapolis. It’s done by an artist named Jamie Pawlus.

Now, I’ve lived in this area for 2+ years, and walk by this piece on a daily basis. Continue reading ‘Going on’

Family Business

“It’s in Belgium.”

I can always depend on a good, strange movie I’ve never heard of when I’m home with the parents. We saw In Bruges today, written & directed by Martin McDonagh, and it was brilliant. Inappropriate, funny, suspenseful, well-written movie.

The older I get, the more I stay the same

Pops and I were just having a little breakfast, and he put a napkin in his collar to protect his fresh white shirt.

Dad tends to leave the table with half the food on his shirt. I said, “At least you know yourself.”

His response was classic: “I do. Sometimes it’s a great acquaintance, and other times it sucks.”

That little Monday morning gem of my trip home was so fitting. And it made me think of this song:

Starin’ through my rearview

It was in the clutches, but we missed too many layups.

Wale (wah-lay).

Cool show/night in Columbus at Skully’s Friday night. Marc made the trip in from Dayton. Stevie Internets documented the night with many pics – great work as usual. The Milk Bar crew showed Midwestern hospitality. Fly Union opened up, and grew on me with “Fitted Like My Cap”. Wale and Nick Catchdubs went off. Nike Boots and D.A.N.C.E. were my personal favorites.

The after party at Milk Bar got serious. (Video)

Everything new…

… like a Carmel-ite’s facelift.

Download IceIce Box (no, not Omarion). Kinetik, the prophetic.

I missed N.E.R.D. Monday night at the Vogue, but I’ll share pics if Mr. Soul Sincere ever uploads them. Word is, this is a show worth seeing. I’ll get to see it in an arena this summer, but I can only imagine the energy in a small venue.

****UPDATE***** Show re-cap is up HERE ***********

But, like my man said in a text March 16th, “… No coincidences in life. The world is yours.” I was meant to stay home Monday night. People tend to come into your life (and vice versa) for a purpose. Might not be easy to translate or de-code, but I firmly believe this to be true.

**sidenote – I was in a Chase bank today that got robbed. No commotion or gunpoint or hold-ups. It was like George Clooney and crew came in and cleaned up without a peep. It was very strange to say the least.

Upgrade U

World traveler, kick flatterer (aka Trav) has upgraded from Blogspot to Word Press.

He’s still in Copenhagen shedding light on us Westerners – don’t fret.  Congratulate him at his new home, Victory is in my clutches

And download this zhsare of Weezy F’s best, in my humble opinion.

Clean Too Short albums

Indianapolis legends.  Get hip if you’re not already.

We are Dynamic and People Like Us.  Album numero cinco  (“not countin mixtapes, man it’s crazy…” (c) Rusty Redenbacher) coming soon.

Victory is in my clutches

And what did I say? Million Dollar Marcus and I took a little 30 minute jaunt to Plainfield, and we smiled at the guards, using the power of hope to get the ticketless boy wonder in the building.

After making our own parking spot, walking by hustlers selling Obama pins, t-shirts, beach towels and size 10 Air Obama’s like it was the streets of Manhattan (well, not the towels and shoes – let me exaggerate), going through the metal detectors, signing up for the Indiana volunteer list, and finding our spot in the wooden gym bleachers, Mr. Obama told us it was “our campaign” . . . Thought Process

The good die mostly over bullsh** (Goodie M.O.B.) Soul Food. One of my favorite groups/debut albums of all time.

I’ve been meaning to write this for a couple days, but didn’t get around to it. But, the timing worked perfectly. As I added the above picture, I hear Free coming out of my roommate’s speakers. It must be 10:22pm!? Nope. 6:50. Oh well, still “a bit weiyd” (Brit, Flight of the Conchords**)

**If you’re white and haven’t seen that show, you’ll like it. Trust me.

Speaking of stuff white people like, Soul Food is like the Dazed and Confused of hip hop albums to me. You ever heard someone say, “I didn’t know Matthew Mcconaughey was in that movie?!” or “Is that Ben Affleck with the sideburns holding the paddle?”

If you stay up on the Dungeon Family, than this is common knowledge, but to others it’s a necessary lesson. Soul Food birthed the sounds of Organized Noize, Cee-Lo, Khujo, T-Mo, Big Gipp, and Dungeon Family’s most popular Big Boi and Andre. I’m always amazed when an Outkast fan hasn’t heard Soul Food, or doesn’t realize its significance. I’m guilty of such oversights in music, but this one just strikes a chord in me because it was one of the first albums I fell in love with…. Continue reading ‘Thought Process’

Marc was too slow on the jump to get a ticket, but I told him not to lose HOPE… and we’ll try to sneak him by Secret Service.  How do you think I got this seat? (Yep, that’s my bald head – 2nd row, aisle)

Had to see Barack’s competition up close… and well, let’s just say if the Electorates require any physical fitness in this year’s race, we’re going to be OK.

“Yep, there goes me right there in black”

blackness of meditation

Welcome to 1022. I hope it’s an enjoyable experience, full of reflection, laughter, sharing, observations, music, politics, insecurities, growth, and most importantly the “daily assassination of dream killers” (c) ADK Ent.

So, let me try to start this new relationship as articulately as possible given the shifting of transportation/communication methods (i.e. spaceships)

1022 is inspired from many angles, but mainly that number that dates back to 12-13 years ago. It’s got a tall-African-man-from-I-Heart-Huckabees type of existential meaning I’m still finding out about. I’ll be sprinkling some random 1022 moments throughout the content of this blog. Some funny. Some creepy. Some with no meaning whatsoever.

The actual decision to start this long-talked-about-but-never-actualized blog can be attributed to the following: Continue reading ‘“Yep, there goes me right there in black”’
